Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed in an outpatient setting. Our skin loses elasticity and excess skin forms around the eyes as we age. Blepharoplasty corrects sagging eyelids, removes excess skin and fat from the upper lid and fatty pouches beneath the eyes. Surgery can be performed on just the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both upper and lower eyelids at the same time under local anesthetic.
Do you have pouches under your eyes?
Puffiness or pouches under eyelids are typically treated with lower eyelid surgery. An incision is made just inside the lower eyelid and the fat pads removed. The eyelid heals naturally on the inside without sutures or visible scars. The correction is permanent and patients are extremely happy with the results.
What about my upper eyelids?
Upper eyelid surgery is very popular today. It is quick and easy and leaves permanent results. The excess skin is removed from the eyelid and the scar is hidden in the natural folds of the lid. Thousands of patients undergo this procedure annually in order to restore the eyelid, leaving you looking more rested and younger.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure normally takes about an hour if you are having upper or lower lids done or about two hours for both upper and lower lids.
What about the recovery?
Patients may experience some bruising and swelling for about two weeks. The sutures are removed at about a week to ten days after surgery. Make-up can be worn after the sutures are removed. We carry Arnica Montana, an over-the-counter supplement, which you take to minimize bruising following surgery.
